WordPress marketing at its finest, pulling at our heart strings for the future.
  • For those who want their website to live forever, there’s no need to cryogenically freeze it – instead, you can opt for WordPress’ 100-year plan.
  • At the cost of $38,000, you can secure your domain for 100 years – that’s pretty wild.

For those who are a stickler for security and love to invest in the future, the WordPress website builder has the domain solution – a 100-year plan.

What Is The WordPress 100-Year Plan?

Whether you want to save your wedding website, family photos, or global empire, you can gain access to domain registration that lasts a century rather than just 10 years – with WordPress’ 100-year plan. Creating multiple backups of your content, WordPress is preserving your site for future generations.

Think of it like WordPress hosting that could outlast you. It also is said to offer “unmetered bandwidth, best-in-class speed, and unstoppable security bundled in one convenient package.

And as we mentioned it comes at the cost of a mammoth $38,000! Monthly for 100 years that averages to about $31.67 per month or $380 every year, for 100 years. Not the most affordable of WordPress’ plans, but then you do get to secure your domain for the next generation. If you think about it, this is sort of a time machine for your website.

When looking at the details of the 100-year plan, the CEO of WordPress Matt Mullenweg noted,

Whether it’s giving a newborn the special gift of a domain and lifetime home on the web, or something you put in your will to make sure your website and story are accessible to future generations, I hope this plan gets people and other companies thinking about building for the long term.

Matt paints a picture of domains becoming similar to the housing market in the future, an asset to buy to create a sense of stability for your family and loved ones. It’s an interesting angle, accompanied by a video filled with images of love and connection, but whether $38,000 on a website would be money well spent on a family’s future is yet to be seen.

It’s more likely to help large conglomerates that are built with WordPress who want to preserve their business – and who personally we think they should’ve targeted with the marketing.

Considering we don’t even know what the web will look like in 100 years’ time, we think you may be better off buying that newborn a cute stuffed animal for now!

I’m a writer at Website Builder Expert, having joined the team in March 2022. Before joining I had my own freelance content writing business and now I work to test builders and write the content you read here on the site – so you can create a website that best suits you and your needs.

Over my first year here I’ve tested all the builders you’ll read about, shaped the weekly newsletter content, written social media content, and scripted YouTube videos. I’ve also created demo websites to help showcase the builder’s capabilities so you can pick the best option.

I’ve also had the wonderful opportunity to pitch articles for the site like the Best Writer Websites and write guest posts for the likes of Digital Information World, using my degree expertise in Film to share tips on video optimization.
